| The University Compliance Program, which is comprised of the University Compliance Committee working in partnership with the University Compliance Officer and supporting staff, is responsible for developing, reviewing and verifying the effective implementation of compliance policies, procedures and practices to ensure excellence in the University’s efforts to comply with its institutional, regulatory and legal obligations. The Compliance Program proactively supports the effectiveness of compliance efforts for the University. This Program ensures: general and specific training and education regarding applicable laws, regulations, policies, procedures and best practices; communication of clear business ethical guidelines to all employees, faculty, consultants and independent contractors; and monitoring and oversight of the University’s efforts to maintain the highest standards of excellence in fulfilling its institutional, regulatory and legal obligations.
The University Compliance Officer reports regularly through the General Counsel and Chief Financial Officer to the President and Audit Committee of the Board of Trustees on the status of compliance efforts, and in collaboration with the Compliance Committee investigates compliance lapses and allegations of wrongdoing, reports findings and conclusions drawn from those investigations, recommends specific corrective action or policy changes, and oversees implementation of such corrective actions.
Position Summary
The University Compliance Officer works in partnership with the Chief Financial Officer and the Vice President and General Counsel. The Compliance Committee shall provide oversight in establishing the priorities of the Compliance Program, and thereby the Compliance Officer.
The University Compliance Officer staffs the University Compliance Committee, consisting of compliance officers for all areas of the University, including, but not limited to Finance, Internal Audit, Human Resources, Safety and Environmental, Research Compliance and Tax.

| Qualifications |
REQUIREMENTS
Experience
Minimum of ten years of professional job experience required with at least four years of demonstrated leadership or experience in financial, legal, compliance or audit issues (experience in multiple areas preferred). Professional experience within an academic institution, large company or government agency preferred.
Education/licensing
Advanced degree required.
Essential skills
• In depth understanding of key applicable federal, state and local legislation.
• Ability to read and interpret complex regulatory or legal documents.
• Ability to communicate technical and complex concepts required.
• Possess ability to apply principles of logical thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
• Ability to respond effectively to confidential inquiries or complaints.
• Ability to communicate through effective and persuasive speeches and presentations.
• Ability to work as a leader and as a member of a team.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Great organization and self-initiative.
Technical skills
• Strong computer skills with Microsoft Word, Excel and Access.
• Technical skills in PeopleSoft preferred.
